Kanchanaburi has a dark past, going back to WW II and the famous River Kwai railroad and bridge built by Allied prisoners of war. The brutality of the Japenese coupled with the harsh conditions took many lives. Today, a cemetary of those who perished is a popular attraction .. as is the museum.
Information for

But Kanchanaburi has a brighter side as well, with outstanding golf courses, river rafting and nature all around. It's a popular day trip from Bangkok, but golfers and nature lovers may want to stay a few days.
Examples of
Kanchanaburi Thailand Hotels include:
Comsaed River Kwai Resort & Spa-Kanchanaburi
Ewan stayed at Comsaed River Kwai Resort & Spa on 05/11/2006 and said, "A really good country retreat style of resort on the bank of the Kwai river. A liitle way out of Kanchanaburi but ideal for its peace & quiet. Rooms comfortable and suites - especially those overlooking the river - excellent. Staff very helpful, especially Charlie, the hotel manager, and courteeous. Position ideal for the local sites although a car is probably necessary for independant sight seeing. We used a local tour company from Kanchanaburi and had to pay a premium for pickup due to our isolated lacation. The extra 100 baht per person was worth it for the pleasantness of the hotel s situation and surroundings"
The River Kwai Resotel-Kanchanaburi
Dennis stayed at The River Kwai Resotel on 04/03/2006 and said, "I thoroughly enjoyed both the tour and River Kwai Resotel. Everything was well planned and carried out by Sawadee Travel, their guides and the Resotel hotel staff. The Hotel is well located and the individual cabins are very comfortable. I would recommend a visit to this part of Thailand."
The River Kwai Jungle Rafts-Kanchanaburi
Gert stayed at The River Kwai Jungle Rafts on 07/07/2006 and said, "We had ordered pagage tour number NC302 - 3 days at River Kwai with one night stay at River Kwai Jungle Rafts and one night at River Kwai Resotel.
The Jungle Rafts was a fascinating experience completely close to the river and the jungle. As we knew there was no electricity, but it was very impressive with oil-lamps int he evening. The menu was thai-food, but our fussy teenage daughter got special treatment with european food. Very good service.
At the Resotel the conditions were luxury. The rooms were very good and the suroundings were impressive like a botanical garden.
At both places there was a fine service (luggage, arrival, information etc.) and everything was unexceptionable."
River Kwai Botanic Garden-Kanchanaburi
Paulhorst stayed at River Kwai Botanic Garden on 04/09/2006 and said, "It was all very nice. Rooms and Location good, but far from the town.
For us it was no problem, because we stay for 17 days in Thailand and we relaxed for one day in this hotel.
In the evening there are many mosquitos and they like to fly in the meal at the restaurant.
If you stay there don t forget your Lotion against mosquitos."
Felix River Kwai-Kanchanaburi
Lars stayed at Felix River Kwai on 07/13/2006 and said, "The swimmingpool really is amazing! Hotel location is great - just a few hundred meters from River Kwai bridge. Rooms are great but not as clean as seen on other hotels in this price range. The staff is very friendly and you get a very good service. "
