Northeast Thailand is better known as Issan aka Isarn and may well be the soul of Thailand. Many of the people speak Lao, the music is unique, and the people are great. Long stretches of paddy land gives way to a range of mountains that is home to Thailand's largest national park, Khao Yai.

Nakhonphanom River View Hotel-Isan
Alan Robertson stayed at Nakhonphanom River View Hotel, Nakhonphanom on 2007-06-14 - said: "The first room was small and Air Con was not working. In general the Wing Rooms looked far inferior to the Central Block. We upgraded to a Central Suite. Ten times the room quality for double the price. Good breakfast, good pool, good view of the Mekong and Laos; but the Mekong View, nearer to town, offers better value, same view and a superb restaurant next door."
