Erik stayed at Charoen Hotel on 2008-04-28 and said, "Not our first choice, but since the Charoensri Royal was fully booked we decided to stay here. The Charoensri is more comfortable and luxerious but the service in Charoen makes up for that! Excellent service from very friendly and helpfull staff. Everyday a free newspaper in the room. The standerd room is sober and dated but very clean and quiet and all fittings worked fine. Only thing I missed was a good moviechannel on TV (like Star or Cinemax) - there is a moviechannel but shows only old dated movies. We fixed that with buying a 900 baht DVD player in the nearby shopping complex (tip for long stayers). Breakfast is simple - lunch and dinner buffet are excellent (imho better than Charoensri Royal which is so highly recommended by most reviewers and travel guides). All you can eat Asian dinner buffet for 130 baht! My Thai wife loved it. The swimming pool is a bit small, but clean with good service profided. Have not been to the gym yet. We liked this place so much that we stayed another 2 weeks here and we will be back next time!"

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. There are cheap and nice food stall/restaurant nearby the hotel. The breakfast were ok but it d be good if they can change the menu on alternate day. The hotel provided airport transfer which was very convenient for us."

Reception got keys and breakfast vouchers all prepared in an envelope. Overall hotel was clean though furnishings in room a bit old and worn. Breakfast was ok but ends a bit early (9am), so can t sleep late. Pleasantly surprised with complimentary airport transfer! Would definitely go back again."

Very comfortable room and good service throughout. The buffet breakfast was first class. It is less than 5 minutes walk to bus station should you arrive by this means of transport and not much further to Robinsons the main department store.If I go to Udon Thani again I will stay at this hotel again."

It looked out on the street and the pool and it s noisy, but with the air conditioning white noise it was tolerable. It s within walking distance (for me a mountain climber) of everything you might want to walk to, although watch out for dangling powerlines and forehead level pipes on the sidewalks. The Grand Royal is the best hotel in town, but this is a good backup choice. It doesn t have internet access at all."

The room was allright, though a little bit on the rundown side, especially the bathroom.Reception was nice, friendly and charming.Room service seems to have a private Side-business going, as they declined to give me a receipt as well as demanded to pay cash.Biggest drawback for me was the lack of electrical outlets (only in bathroom, no fun if you want to reload camera or laptop ...) Also no direct dial phone.WIll try Charoensri next time."

I wouldnt call it great or luxurious, but clean, decent service and friendly staff, breakfasts were good, and I never saw any cockroaches. The pool was not operational when i was there but the renovation work will please future guests i m sure. I took the room because I got a good price. Would I stay again? I would, but its my usual practice to not stay in the same hotel twice unless its exemplary--this wasnt. But its a good value and if you are only staying a short time, I highly recommend it."

The atmosphere was cool, although the staff at the reception was very heldful with all questions, I did not feel very comfortable. As I was travelling alone, I had a very bad experience: I received a phonecall just a few minutes after my dinner in the room, asking all kind of very private questions, so it gave me the feeling that I was followed by some female."

The room was OK, comfortable and clean.But in this hotel I have met the most unfriendly staff in Thailand. And believe me, I have been many times in Thailand before.The staff in the restaurant very unfriendly. But very friendly to Asien guests!The staff by breakfast extreme unfriendly.The American breakfast was miserable. Only food for Asiens was great!All staff did not speak fluent English.The pool service was miserable. Only five dirty beds, only a few chairs, long time no towels .....I had the feeling of a second class guest in this hotel.I am sorry, I will never stay in Charoen hotel again. Because Thailand has great hotels with great staff everywhere."

I would recommend this hotel to anyone the rooms (new wing)were spacious clean and well equipped if you go to Udon Thani it is mosquito heaven so be sure to pack and wear insect repellant at all times."
