Dale stayed at Pornping Tower on 2008-02-25 and said, "First impressions of the Porn Ping were very good. Flash lobby, very clean entrance, professional service etc. However once in the room it was noticable that this hotel is old and really the time has come for a renovation.(I am not sure if this is planned or not!) Apart from that the Porn Ping offers excellent views of Chiang Mai, excellent location (walk everywhere) and good bars (hotshots)etc. I would stay here again."

Services are good but breakfast for me was cold most of the time. Good basic selection of food. Hotel very clean I thought. Pool was a little cool for me but ok. 3 night clubs at hotel. Great for younger adults. Beds were large and comfortable. Suggest this is a 3* type hotel. Front desk very effeciant. English was ok"

The rooms are looking very tired (we were not in the high rise section.) The breakfasts were ot nearly as good as in the past - poorer selection & presentation of food. David stayed at Pornping Tower on 2007-01-14 and said, "OK - but you really need to be in the ower section - the front section rumbles from the nightclub even on the 6th floor. Really convenient to the night market. But staff at front desk are not very helpful - we wanted an extra night and they said we had to wait until that morning (two days later). We couldn t take the risk - so got another hotel - and as expected the Porn Ping easily had sufficient rooms and were then surpirsed that we had gotten another reservation. Best to be clear and forceful. BTW - the transfer from the airport is almost twice as expensive as a cab (if more than one person)."

The air conditioning was not working well in my room.I originally book a Tower wing room but changed to the Front wing as these rooms are lighter with white walls and trim.Other than that I was very pleased with my stay at the Pornping Tower."

Only problem was trying to find a hotel rep who speaks english. Getting understood is pretty difficult if you re not thai. Go to the elephant haven - www.elephantnaturepark.org also bookable in chang mai centre... totally avoid elephant shows and rides; the animals are treated really badly. Chang Mai is great; lots to see and do - totally different to Bangkok."

My room was excellent with the king size bed, good view and clean. The regret was my 3 children who share in one room since we were dire need with the joining one then the room was so compact with additional bed and the aircon also not in good service. Overall we were satisfied with the service. The breakfast is superb, the service was good and every staff there were very helpful and always smile. The location of the hotel is strategic, close to the market and easily accessible to many places especialy halal restaurants and shopping centre. Thank you Porn Ping and Chiang Mai."

It was a very clean, peaceful & classy hotel. When stepped in to the hotel lobby, there was goldenness lobby for a 3-star hotel.The rooms were spacious, clean and no smelly. The front officer very warm and friendly, even the breakfast not much variety but it suitable for everybody. I had no problem with the hotel lift.The famous Night Bazaar, it just a 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Around the hotel, there were many Thai Massage boutique, saloon, small restaurant, bistro & pub.If I visit to chiang mai I’ll stay in Pornping tower again.I felt very peaceful during my stay in Pornping Tower."

I would reccomend this hotel if you are on a budget but can still afford a little comfort. Changed to a higher floor for subsequent nights. Proximity to Sunday market and night markets make it a convenient place to be at."

The recommendations from previous visitors was helpful as I did stay in the tower. The noise level from the clubs and the Night Bazaar traffic can overwhelming, so bring ear plugs."

IGARASHI stayed at Pornping Tower on 2006-02-05 and said, "Location is good.But when i stayed this hotel, very noisy music was loud until midnight.It is loud from HOT SHOT night club that located on ground floor on front wing.If you have plan to stay this hotel, i do not recommend to stay in front wing. It was unconfortable and hotel is not understanding about this noise seriously."

Very cheap laundry services in the neighbourhood. Do book in the Tower Wing though because the nightclubs do make the other area quite noisy."

The hotelroom was great, make sure you book the TOWER though as if you are not a teenybopper,you would not be able to sleep a wink in the other area. that disco is awfully loud! we will be back next time, hopefully next year same time."

The room was decorated with paintings and other features that I had not seen in other hotels I stayed at. Good view of the city.I asked for a high floor in a tower (deluxe) room as advised by others, but I could still hear the thumping bass of the disco below which goes on till 2am. My hearing better than average, and others said they couldn t hear it. Fortunatly I had ear plugs.There is no safe in the room, and some other guests had some items including money taken from their room. They complained and most of the items were returned, however, not their money. I had no problems, however carried my valuables with me and locked most other items in my suitcase.No hair dryer. No extraction fan in the bathroom cause it to steam up.I asked for a single room and was given a room with two single beds rather than a single large bed which I d have preferred! Extra V-shape pillows provided though."

We do recommend this hotel for your stay in Chiang Mai.we stayed in a luxury room, it was a good choice. Hotel is Close to night street market and give you the opportunity to reach the point of interest in the city by a short walk.breakfast was also good, with fresh fruits, bakeries, eggs sausage and so on-swimming pool gives you the opportunity to relax after a busy day (towel are available). Ong stayed at Pornping Tower on 2005-08-07 and said, "I enjoyed my stay at Porn Ping Towers. The hotel is 10 mins walking from Warorot Market and separated from Chiang Inn Plaza by a food court. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. The room (4th level tower wing) could be improved though, more brightly lit and some hot drinks making facility."

Nadarajan stayed at Pornping Tower on 2005-07-29 and said, "Hotel(4****)is centrally located and walking distance of Night Bazaar.Very convenient. My first impression was very good and it lasted till the end. Staff were very friendly & helpful.Checking-in & out were a breeze. I was picked from the airport promptly for a mere 80 Bt. Room was big, very clean and comfortable. My only complain is that it doesn t have enough TV international channels to watch. No in-house videos. Only BBC & MTV. Breakfast spread is acceptable and palatable. I definitely will stay in Pornping during my subsequent visits to Chiangmai. Thank you staff @ Pornping for a very pleasant stay."

Susan stayed at Pornping Tower on 2005-07-18 and said, "The pros to this hotel would be the close proximity to the Night Market, also a nice lobby area. Also, the breakfast buffet was very good. The cons are that the pictures on the website are very deceiving. The rooms are very small and dark. They are not very clean and very run down. I decided to bring the picture that I had printed from their website to the front desk and their response was we do special lighting for the pictures . The room did not look anything like pictures! Would not stay here again."

Some of the staff were truly exceptional in their courtesy - even forThailand!I ll definitely stay in this hotel again,if I get an opportunity."

Tan stayed at Pornping Tower on 2005-02-11 and said, "In terms of location, Pornping Tower is great. Just beside the hotel is the main foodcourt. And this foodcourt leads towards the night bazaar. A short distance from the hotel too is the main market and flower market. The room is clean and comfortable. But like many hotels in Bangkok, there s no hot-drink making facilities, nor a hair dryer. But getting a hair wash is not such a problem as there are so many hair-dressing saloons (there s even an open one at the main market) and the rates are very reasonable. The hotel provides quiete a good spread for breakfast too. If you are looking for a place to book a local tour, DON T use the tour agent just outside the hotel entrance. Go towards the main road, turn left and a couple of metres down the road on the left hand side, you will see a tour agent( sorry, can t remember the name)which can arrange good tours at very reasonable price. We signed up for the one that has the following itinery: an elephant ride, bamboo rafting, tribal village visits, lunch, and a visit to a waterfall which only costs us 700 baht per person. The tour agent outside the hotel entrance wanted to charge us 1000 baht for a similar tour. The elephant ride and bamboo rafting were fun and quite an experience. No life jackets will be provided for bamboo rafting (the water s less than 12 inches deep!) Considering the elephant camp was about 1 hr from chiangmai and that it was a full day tour, 700 baht was really value for money. The tour agent opposite the hotel charged us 500 baht for a half day tour to the temple at the top of the hill and a visit to a tribal village. That wasn t value for money! Anyway, at that tribal village, we got to see marijuana plants and poppy plants."

James stayed at Pornping Tower on 2005-01-25 and said, "Good quality for the price. Breakfast had many different offerings and was very good. Hotel is close to night bazaar, Riverside restaurant (do not miss . . .) and the Antique House. This was my second stay at the Pornping and I am looking forward to my next stay there during Songkran in April."

Joseph stayed at Pornping Tower on 2004-12-03 and said, "before i book this Porn Ping hotel, i did go through the travel review of this Porn Ping hotel from many who have use the sawadee, and the general impressions were that the hotel is about 20 to 30 years old, and it is a convenient and good hotel. well, truely, i think it is a very convenient hotel. first, as many know, it is very close to the famous Night Bazaar, just 2 minutes walk. you can look around and buy many souvenior and clothings at this street call chang klan road, which is where the location is. and between the hotel and the Night Bazaar, there is a food court as well, and the price are cheap. at 25 to 30 baht, you can buy things like chicken rice, thai fish ball noodle, etc. The prices are the same as any of the street stalls you find in thailand. well, i pay 1300 baht for the superior room and i think it is reasonable. well, the reason is, somehow for chiang mai, it is more expensive than bangkok in term of hotel rate. if you stay in the city area, it is cheaper. but if you try going to far away location, it tend to be a little more expensive, at least this is what i find through the internet booking process. on 1 dec to 3 dec, i was at bangkok First hotel, and i pay around 910 baht, through another online agency, http://www.chiangmai-hotels.org . when i was at Porn Ping from 3 dec to 5 dec, i paid 1300 baht. the breakfast in porn ping is the standard we find in thailand. at night, the disco beside the porn ping building, which is called Bubble is crowded with european guys and girls and their lady thai social escort. and the live band bar called Hotshot is crowded with thai tourists. yes, Porn ping attracts many thai tourists probably because it is not so expensive. the beverage like the bottle of coke in the fridge there cost 20 baht. well, the street stalls will sell you 10 baht, and the First hotel i stayed cost 30 to 35 baht. i hope you get the idea now. good luck to your online booking. if we talk about hotels, some time i find the"

It was all I hoped for and more, booked for 3 nights-stayed for 10. Had stnd room but very clean and really nice decor. On 5th floor had slight noise from disco but not bad. Staff were all charming and so helpful - laundry, room service, flight confirmation,luggage storage - nothing too much trouble. Arrived 08.30 and was allowed to check in straight away. Amazing choice for breakfast buffet, though could be hotter. Lovely pool, brilliant central location. Have stayed in many hotels worldwide but this cannot be beaten for quality,value for money, location. Am re-booking for January for the whole family."

Roy stayed at Pornping Tower on 2004-09-02 and said, "I have stayed at this hotel everytime I have visited Chiang Mai. Have had rooms both in the front addition and the tower. I ll always choose rooms in the tower which run a little more. In the front addition, you have the Hotshot Club on the first floor. From 10 Pm to 1 AM, it sounds like the band is in the next room. Way too loud, and hard to sleep.In the tower you are away from this noise, and it is much more peaceful.The decore of the hotel is quite beautiful, however the rooms are getting a bit dated. The staff is very friendly. Checking in and out is fast and efficient. It has a very good breakfast buffet in the morning. The Nimarnoradee Grill on the top floor is very good, with excellent service. Ate once in the GingPai, and the service there left quite a bit to be desired. The hotel is situated in an excellent location, with a short easy walk to the Night Bazaar.All in all, I would rate the Pornping Tower as a very good choice for the money."

I would definately stay there again as I am planning to come back to Chiang Mai in February. I must add though that the breakfast was tasty but EXTREMELY greasy for my taste and I would imagine most Westerners. Another friend and I did have some digestive problems...diarrhea which stopped when we ate elsewhere and the food was not as greasy and oily.
