The Italian restaurant is superb and the breakfast buffet very palatable. Swimming pool is small but well maintained.Don t expect to be able to use the gym (no air conditioning and a wall of glass window which exacerbated the heat). Equipment pretty run down."

We booked the deluxe room for 4 nights, the room is renovated just recently, and every thing is pretty new. Malcolm stayed at Empress Hotel on 2007-11-19 and said, "I travel to Chiang Mai regularly and have for over 10 years and generally stop at the Empress staing there usually for 10 days or more. I have on occasions sampled other hotels but next trip returned to the Empress.Value for money I think it is the best in Chiang Mai. The rooms are a reasonable size well appointed and are kept very clean. Resterants are good and the breakfast is one of the best I have had in Thailand, better even than most hotels I have stayed in, even ones which have a higher star rating. The staff are all very efficient friendly and helpfull creating the very pleasant atmosphere the hotel has."
Muensterer stayed at Empress Hotel on 2007-11-14 and said, "Excellent hotel, great location, easy to find by car. Some good restaurants in walking distance.Would stay at the Empress again."
Susan stayed at Empress Hotel on 2007-09-26 and said, "Our stay at The Empress was really enjoyable. The lobby area is beautiful and the staff were very helpful. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean and the bathrooms excellent. Housekeeping staff were great and the breakfasts were some of the best that we have had in Thailand with a great selection of Western and Thai foods. There is a good sized swimming pooland bar area - there were some repairs happening around the pool during our stay however this wasn t disruptive. If you re looking for a great Thai food experience, try The Hug Restaurant which is only about 300m to the left of the Empress on the main road - fantastic!"
Graham stayed at Empress Hotel on 2007-04-17 and said, "Excellent Value for an older but upscale hotel in Chiang Mai. Great pool and poolside bar. Exercise room is average by Western standards but pretty good for Thailand. Breakfast is good for Western food but poor for Thai food. Located a 5 minute tuk tuk ride from the old city, 10 minutes to the Riverside restaurants like Good View. New tower being built in front of this hotel but the noise didn t bother us. Overall, for 1,500 baht a night, good value for a hotel with AC, decent breakfast and full amenities."
Karen stayed at Empress Hotel on 2007-04-12 and said, "Very impressed with this hotel. Great location, within easy walking distance of the night market. The service was excellent and the staff friendly and extrememly helpful. The breakfast was superb, such a choice, and all fresh. We ate in one of the dining rooms and had a lovely meal. Pool good also. In all no compliants and would definately return."

Urs stayed at Empress Hotel on 2006-11-01 and said, "Again at the Empress in Chiang Mai, I do like the hotel very much because of their friendlyness and the ood value I got for the prize paid. The room was clean and not too big, but who cares when you spend every day 18 hours outside exploring wonderfull Norththailand.....Urs S., Switzerland"
Ho stayed at Empress Hotel on 2006-09-02 and said, "They have a Fantastic live band there! Only stayed at the hotel for 1 night, so not much to comment. But with this range of price, it is considered a better than average hotel."
Jan stayed at Empress Hotel on 2006-06-22 and said, "Very nice hotel.A little luxury combined with a frendly atmosphare make you feel very comfortable"
Chris stayed at Empress Hotel on 2006-06-03 and said, "the pictures online for this hotel are somewhat decieving. Because of the low season this room was only 1250 baht ($30 USD). I thought since it was listed at about $50-60 USD during high season that it would be decent, I was wrong. Very dated and the rooms are dark and in drastic need of an update. The bathrooms have not been refurbished in 20-30 years so they do not appear very clean. I would put this hotel in the category of a very old Best Western in the US. The only redeeming quality of this hotel was the breakfast had many options. If I ever return to Chang Mai, I will stay at the Sheraton as there are not many other choices that are nice."
MARY stayed at Empress Hotel on 2006-05-02 and said, "this is our third time visiting this hotel in Chaing mia it is a wonderful hotel to stay not far from the airport or the night market or the CityThe hotel staff are very friendly and polite also very helpful. Steven stayed at Empress Hotel on 2005-11-18 and said, "This hotel is a great value for the money. It s an older hotel but it s in very good shape. I really like the Thai decorations and the overall look of this hotel. It s within walking distance or a very short tuk tuk ride to the night market."
Fiona stayed at Empress Hotel on 2005-09-07 and said, "The hotel was clean and well kept, with an impressive reception area. Not the most luxurious hotel I have ever stayed in but very good for the price and a decent sized room. We did have an issue with the electricity in our room on the first night but it was sorted out fairly speedily, with a large amount of apologies for the inconvenience! The staff were very friendly and helpful."

Bruno stayed at Empress Hotel on 2005-06-28 and said, "All over a nice place to stay. The only thing the reception staff not really frindly and need to remind them twice we have a booking for some aditional night."
Judith stayed at Empress Hotel on 2005-06-26 and said, "My husband and I spent four nights at the Empress Hotel in Chiang Mai in June, 2005. For a very reasonable price, we had a good-sized room with a king-sized bed and all the usual amenities including a swimming pool. In addition, there was a plate of Thai fruit in the room on our arrival, new bottles of water every day (a necessity in Thailand), an extensive breakfast buffet including both Thai foods and more Western ones, and a coverlet on the bed by day and turndown service with a rosebud on the pillows by night. There is a Chinese restaurant and a French one on site in addition to the restaurant that provided the breakfast buffet, buffets for other meals and a la carte service,. We enjoyed the all-you-can-eat dim sum lunch at the Chinese restaurant and had two very good meals at the French restaurant. One of the highlights of our trip was the tableside presentation of our “Café Diabloat the French restaurant. The Night Market is an easy “tuk-tukride away, one can obtain a massage or a session of foot reflexology either next to the pool or in one’s room, and there are travel agents available on the premises to arrange tours of the different sights in the area. If we return to Chiang Mai, we will certainly stay at the Empress Hotel again."
Daniel stayed at Empress Hotel on 2004-11-30 and said, "My wife and I really like the Empress. In international Chiang Mai it still feels very Thai. The service is great, the staff friendly and efficient. We have stayed there a few times, and have had our room upgraded each time. When in Chiang Mai, stay at the Empress... I think you will be pleased!"

Bruno stayed at Empress Hotel on 2004-10-01 and said, "Even the Empress get older its still a excellent place to stay. Rooms are clean and and well maintained. Value of every THB you spend for the room and ABF.Airport suttle very good, coz they pick up you even you arrive Chiang Mai with Airlines like Thai Orient or Nok Air."
Wayne stayed at Empress Hotel on 2004-08-16 and said, "The Empress was very good for the price, especially the breakfast buffet. The beds were a little hard, even for Thailand. The staff was reasonable."
Mr.Colin stayed at Empress Hotel on 2004-08-14 and said, "The Empress hotel is one of the better class in Chang Mai with good clean rooms and friendly helpful staff. The breakfast is a bit samey but a reasonable selection. The description of walking times on their web site is a bit optomistic but there are Tuk Tuks (3 seater open taxi based on a motorcycle) available and wil take you most places quite cheaply. The hotel has an executive level which may well be worth trying and is is definately worth asking for a no smoking room if you are a non smoker."
Kathryn stayed at Empress Hotel on 2004-08-07 and said, "Fantastic hotel, wonderful facilities, friendly staff, clean and tidy and excellent views over Chiang Mai from our room."
