Christina said, "Shanghai Inn is beautifully decoraed and unlike anywhere ive clean and alot of thought has gone in to everything. The free breakfast was good and staff were friendly and helpful. If I had to find something internet was expensive ( 50 baht for half hr min) and theres not much to do in chinatown but tuk tuk or taxis (metered ones) are cheap and only 5-10 mins from anywhere."
Lisa said, "Rooms are very nice, but no views as stained glass windows. Taxi drivers had trouble finding the hotel, but the hotel card with a map in Thai does help. Hotel has a shuttle service, but is not immediatly on the subway/skytrain system."
Gina said, "Special hotel in China Town, I shall stay here next time I want to go China Town. Try the suite. Poor breakfast."
Mr. said, "the hotel is located in the busier area of china town, you can easily find everything here, but sometimes need to be patient because the traffic in this area could be horrible. in the hotel, everything, every details and each staff was so nice. we especially love the design and exotic atmosphere.if you have time to travel to bangkok, don t miss here."
Alan said, "A nice hotel for the money, and great staff! A bonuses are the great Chinese restaurant next door, and the supermarket underneath the hotel. Location is not far from the Golden Buddha, and the main train station."
Lauri said, "A small hotel located in center of Chinatown area of Bangkok. Room was small but cozy and offered the basic things we needed; staff was friendly and helpful; worth its cost, even though I haven t visited other Bangkok hotels for comparison."
Linda said, "hotel very poor, camaras everywear, most taxi drivers could not find it,poor entrance to hotel, breakfast poor. no windows in rooms felt very inclosed.sorry would not recomend this hotel"
Shane said, "Right in the heart of Chinatown good location to see temples. Express boat 5min walk and Golden buddha close at hand. Nice room. Friendly service"
Olaf said, "The Shanghai Inn is a quite hotel in the middle of Chinatown. The rooms are equipped with nice and colorful Chinese style furniture. And they are absulutely clean. The hotel has a spa on the third floor where you could prepare yourself for an extensive stroll through Chinatown. I have already suggested that hotel to some travellers and I would do this everytime again."
Elizabeth said, "I loved this hotel. We couldnt believe how good value for money it was - it s a perfect sanctuary in the heart of a hectic, noisy city. Our room was much more spacious than we expected and the interior decoration is gorgeaus. The shower is excellent and large enough for 2 (or more!!!). Its located in Chinatown, which is very close to the rest of the city (taxis are cheap) but offers a more interesting experience than staying in the touristy areas such as Khao San. Turn right out of the hotel and you have all the street food and pavement restaurants - the one on the corner nearest the hotel is delicious, cheap and authentic. There is also the famous night market just a few minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel is also conveniently located above a mini-supermarket and sushi/noodle/fruit bar. Hualamphong (Bangkoks mainline train station and metro) is just a 5 or 10 min walk away. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. Once inside our room we could not hear all the hustle and bustle of chaotic chinatown. I really enjoyed my stay here and would definatley recommend it to anyone who wants a bit of luxury but is on a budget and appreciates value for money. My ONLY word of warning - and this applies to anywhere in Bangkok, not just the Shanghai Inn, - do not let anyone (particularly hotel staff) try to reccommend a restaurant to you. They may even offer free transport. It may seem like a good offer. IT ISN T! It is a ploy to get you to eat at a mediocre restaurant and pay exorbitant prices. They get paid commission to do this. Be firm and say no. Do not let anyone try to persuade you into eating somewhere or visiting somewhere because it is nearly always a tourist trap and you will end up feeling like a right plonker for falling for it! Also, if you eat seafood at a restaurant it s sometimes priced per KG. Always double check the exact cost BEFORE you order."
tarnoci said, "No bad, stuff is very friendly but be carefull. On the room are prepare the slipper, when you take it they will charge you 200 baht for one-very unusual for 4 star hotel-question is-if you will leave slipper there-they will probably leave it for next guests. They also charge us 200 baht for card/Dont disturb/anyway it looks that they will charge you for everything.Breakfast is absolutly poor.I recomend you Grand China Princess hotel-much better."
Sarah said, "Shanghai Inn is the one ! It was perfect for us in every way, 3 people we took 1 junior suite and 1 superior room at reception they put us next door to one another and happy to find that the 2 rooms had a connecting door between the rooms. The position being in the center of China town was great because all you had to do was walk and you had a million things to see and do (and eat!).Clean, quiet, nicely decorated just like in the brochure, breakfast buffet was fine, very comfortable beds and a nice atmosphere. The hotel is above a small western style supermarket where you can get everything from sushi to HP sauce!(and has an ATM cash machine)and next door to that a restaurant that serves amazing sharks fin soup.A few minutes walk from the hotel you have the train/metro station, but the tuk tuks are great but make sure you decide a price on where you re going first !!The Shanghai Inn for a great inexpensive stay in bangkok, it s perfect. You can get a great massage in the hotels massage parlour, very good."
Geir said, "My girlfriend and myself said, "Good hotel at good price. If you search something different, this hotel is your hotel. Quite romantic. Only one problem, Chinatown: difficult to leave & come back."
Kristoffer said, "Pros: If you want to be in Chinatown, this place is great. Most taxi drivers found it with the address (remember to have the address with you written in Thai!!!). Great decoration and interior design. Good staff.Cons: Chinatown in general can feel a bit off, very heavy traffic and thus long times to get to/from the hotel. No reading lights at beds strange. As often in Thailand worthless pressure(?) in the showers."
Kandice said, "This is the best hotel we ! Such nice people, they helped us with everything. The room was just like the picture, so beautiful. The massage/spa attached to the hotel (yin-yang I think) was the best massage experience we had in all of Thailand too. My sister and I would love to stay there again."
Kirsten said, "2-3 year old establishment on Yaorawat Road/mid-Chinatown. Difficult to find but very comfortable mid-price hotel. Well thought through chinese style - very good spa-department downstairs. Excellent positioned in the middle of Chinatown. M&K seafood restaurant 200m away - do not miss it!!!"
Rae said, "Good position in Chinatown - just 10min walk to subway. My room was beautifully decorated - (modern chinese) felt luxurious. Lovely personal details such as 2 bottles of drinking water each day in the room fridge, shampoo, body lotion, hair dryer and chinese tea set and kettle. My room was small - suitable for one person - 2 people would be a squeeze with the amount of room around the beds and in the bathroom. It had 2 wide single beds - unfortunately the mattresses were very hard - took the duvet off the other bed and double it over and sleep on it. The shower had only warm water - not hot.I advise that you avoid rooms next to the reception and breakfast cafe.I was woken every morning at 5.30 by staff arriving for their shift, the cafe being set up for breakfast and the Christmas carols over the speaker system! I had room 424 which had no natural light. The breakfast is included in the price - fresh tropical fruit, cereal, yoghurt, eggs, ham, toast, tea & coffee.Staff is friendly and helpful. There is a fantastic Thai Massage downstairs - Highly recommended! Cheap too! This is a great little intimate hotel- excellent value for the money! I will return here and and will make sure I get a room away from the reception/cafe area!Shopping at weekend market is a must!!"
Ee-Leen said, "Shanghai Inn provides a very strong Oriental environment which full of colors which I find very unique and live up to it s name as Special Hotels of the World . Hotel is easily accessible from the Metro station which is just 10 minutes away and 15 minutes on taxi. Though the breakfast range and coffee house is very limited."
Maribel said, "The most beautiful we have ever been in all Thailand!! Wonderful room decorated in chinese style, big bathroom with the same decoration... fantastic! great staff & breakfast in the morning... only not very quiet at morning with the traffic jams (it s in the heart of Chinatown) but the room was great! we would like to repeat!"
Lamers said, "The only bad thing I can think of is that China Town is very crowded 24 hours of the day. The hotel is GREAT, especially if you are interested in interior decorating. If you have some more money to spend, book a junior suite, because of the daylight!"
Andrew said, "Great hotel for those that like funky design and dim lighting- I loved it but my wife was not as enthusiastic, so its not for everyone. We its own balcony onto the street. The room was large enough but it is very noisy and you will not need an alarm clock to be woken by Bangkok early morning traffic. However- the location, street aspect, noise and feel of the place is authentic Bangkok and I would recommend this to those looking for a unique stay. Hotel also has an excellent reasonably priced health spa on level 3 and is close to some excellent local street restaurants."
David said, "This is the most beautiful boutique hotel I ve ever common areas are so good looking, I took photos and sent them to all my friends who were also impressed. The free wireless Internet access was also very much appreciated. The subway station (Hualomphong) is a 10-minute walk away, which is okay. It s easy to get good food nearby at any hour or the day or night, either in a restaurant or from a street vendor (I love pad see eaw) and there is a 7-11 just a few meters away. On the downside, the room was a wee bit cramped and uncomfortable (a result of form over function). It lacked a window to see out of -- some pretty stained glass offered natural light during the day. The breakfast area lacked space and the variety and quality of the food did not quite live up to the rest of the hotel. Still, it was a very enjoyable stay for the price (I actually extended my original stay by 5 additional days for about the same price per night as booking and paying through Sawadee.com) and this is the only hotel I ve found in Bangkok (out of 15 or so) where I d definitely return and stay again. Highly recommended."
Vikki said, "This hotel was lovely, the staff were extremely helpful and made a big effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay. For our first visit to Bangkok it would have been easy to be overwhelmed by how busy it is, but the Staff here made an effort to help us make choices about where to eat out and where to visit. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Beackfast was self service which made it nice and relaxed."
Bohdan said, "I have been to Bangkok 17 times in the past 2 years on business and I have probably helpful staff, wireless internet in the room and a great location. The Shanghai is similiar to Luxx and Silom222, I have would rate Shanghai as slightly better."
YM said, "Good location if you like to check out the street food at night and shop for all manner of items in the day. The hotel itself was a surprise. I ve never been in such a strongly-themed place. Red was the dominant colour in the room and the corridors and it had a feel of old China about it. A nice change from the usual hotel fare."
Danny said, "Very nice hotel in all aspects. Nice staff, good service and very nice decor all round. Will definitely be one of my top recommendations to stay in Bangkok."
Robert said, "The hotel is very well located in the main street of China Town, close to the train station and to access different parts of Bangkok. We had no problems with taxi drivers not being able to find the hotel. The rooms are just wonderful, great furniture and decoration, but more services would be appreciated, as the mini bar in the room only had water. Breakfast is a bit poor.Staff service is overall very good, and friendly.I can warmly recommend the hotel, it is quiet and very clean."
Vezinhet said, "Nice hotel in one of the biggest street of Chinatown. Service is starting slowly so could improve before beeing at international standards"
Willy said, "We liked this hotel a lot it was relaxing with soft chines music in background, very nice colours and beautiful furnitures and so frech and clean. In fact there is room with window as we had one. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Shanghai inn is located right in the hart of China Town and close to the river and other tourist attractions. As the hotel is quite new the taxidriver had some probleme to find it.The breakfast was ok( something between american and continental breakfast). We will surely come back to this hotel it´s already our favorit when we are in B-K."
Markus said, "The hotel is located in the middle of chinatown (Yaowarat): new, clean and small with a supermarket, what was very helpful. The staff is young and friendly. The rooms small and without window, but clean with a solid bed and modern design. Its a bit noisy, esp. if the neighbour uses telephon whole night long. But only for sleeping its a good adress to be in the heart of old BKK."
Roger said, "I don t know about this. It is very hard to find- no sign and it s in a sort of mall. I don t know how hip it is - eclectic and busy decor but still a concrete cell - no outside windows in any rooms. I don t think I d go back but I didn t hate it or anything - more bemused by it"
Holger said, "this is the most hip hotel in Bangkokright in the middel of China Town with all its day and night life. Great. The room are fantastic and the staff is smiling and very helpful. We had 4 very exelent days here."
