Jelonek said, "I regret to say this... I use to visit Bangkok at least once a year for the last twenty years. If it is only possible I try to choose the(sentimental) location of the hotels in the Old City. This time once again it was Rattanakosin (Royal) Hotel-one of the oldest in the city. The problem is that the hotel year by year is running down. The management has tried once again to renovate the lobby- but the quality of the rooms in the so called New Wing (Old Wing was and is looking like the wholeshit) is worse and worse. The bathroom stinks. Windows are dirty. Theoretically white towels and sheets are getting still more and more gray. With the influx of tourists from Khao San Road the service quality is decreasing counter-proportionally. The only advantages are: the location and the relatively good buffet breakfast. Next time I will choose rather Swanna or Royal City"
Anna said, "We because it has a swimming pool/ Actually this time we agreed that there are no more reasons to stay there!! When you are there it seems like the staff only wants money from you and they don t give any service. Example: the taxiservice of the hotel (illegal as wel, we had to pay him in the car because the police was not supposed to see him) charge you 800 bath from the hotel to International Airport. The normal fare is like 300 (excl. taxes for the road, maybe 80 bath). We knew this and agreed a price of 400 bath so the taxidrive cost us like more than an hour because the drive didn t want to pay the fares for the raod. Breakfast is awfull! The eggs are raw and the food is cold! The staff is breaking breakfast up while you are eating. When i asked for a towel at the pool (you can t bring your own towel so you are supposed to), the staffmember looked at me and said: pfffffffffffff. Rest me to say if you really want to go there and expect nothing more than a bed and swimmingpool, ask for a room in the new wing because the old wing is at the road and very very noisy. New wing is more expensive and the rooms are the same but you will sleep better!"
Kristina said, "Nice and clean hotel with very kindly personal. Not expensive."
Vanda said, "Rooms were good and very clean(new wing)When drunken Russians had a 2am party in the next room the staff on notification dealt with them promptly. Breakfast could be improved but was edible. Great location within walking distance of Royal Palace and other sights Front desk staff could be a little more welcoming and cheerful."
Mathias said, "Royal Hotel is a great hotel. Good location and a good hotel. It was the 4th time I said, "Really enjoyed the friendly service and efficient staff, I returned to the hotel on three occassions during my travels in Thailand and each time it felt like returning home."
Eileen said, "The hotel could use a major facelift - the new wing looked pretty used. The porters were pretty much useless - not even offering to help with luggage. The hotel restaurant was dismal at best and the service was rediculously slow."
Shany said, "Excellent hotel with wonderful courteous service. The hotel is situated in afabulous place, close for all central place and the meal at the morning was wonderful."
Nils said, "Quite ok. Close to Khao San, Royal Palace and many Budda."
Robert said, "The hotel was very nicely located to see the royal palace and national museum. The staff was helpful and courteous. Considering the hotel was in the capitol, I would have thought they would have had some US currency on hand to make change for customers. They did not. The hotel in general could use some updating. The walls could use some paint, the carpets could be replaced and in general an updating of the hotel would help it s over all appeal. The breakfast was excellent, the pool acceptable and the restaurant was good."
michael said, "looks good from outside inside looks like fawlty towers service appalling by staff in fact their attitude stinks do not stay here,"
Wim said, "perfect hotel for the price, very near kao san road and other must see places"
Armen said, "It is a nice hotel, located in an old center with all tourist places around in 5-10 minutes of walk. The only thing that sawadee allows to reserve rooms only in an old wing, why ?"
Thomas said, "We re very happy with our stay at Royal Hotel Bangkok. Everything went smooth, nice room with ac, good cleaning, splendid breakfast and sweet massage facilities. Only minus was the restaurant (Coffee Shop) which served a not-so-good meal without a smile in a dull environment, though with fascinating live singing."
Marcia said, "good value and perfect location especially if you dont actually want to be right on khao san road.would return and would recommend."
Alessandro said, "Strategic location for visiting the main Bangkok monuments. Spacious and cleaning rooms, and efficent staff."
Maria said, "The hotel was nice basic hotel, with clean rooms and a nice location. The service in the reseption could have been better."
Louise said, "cheap as chips, close to kao san road and about 1/2 hour drive from everywhere of interest. great travel desk but had a bad experience with the service at the taxi desk. we paid for a return trip to siam park but the driver failed to pick us up. eventually got the money for our return taxi fare but not the cost of the booked and paid for part. live and learn i guess"
Carl said, "Great hotel, very friendly staff, good location, extraordinary breakfast buffet. We enjoyed our stay in Bangkok very much. It s an impressive city but very hectic so we needed a calm haven to get to our senses again. Royal Hotel is such a place."
Evelyn said, "The hotel was in a great location...very easy to walk to all sights and shopping. Staff was very helpful and easy to communicate with. The tour desk arranged a tour to the Bridge on River Kwai that was OK but the trip there was miserable. Way too many people crammed into a little van. Our only other problem was not really the hotel s fault. A rally going on in the park next door complete with loud microphones could be clearly heard every evening in our room until at least 10:00 p.m. Other than that it was a great budget choice."
Fergus said, "We stay here frequently. Excellent value for money and very close to Kohsan Road. If you want to catch the local bus (#79) it is 2 minutes walk away across the road ..... We will be back again ...."
Hayley said, "The Royal Hotel is ideal for a few days, whilst visiting Bangkok. It offers a nice clean standard room with A/C and Buffet breaky (which is good). The Hotel is about a 45min distance from the airport but is very close to Koh San Road. Where there is great shopping. It is only a short Tuk Tuk ride to the main centre of Bangkok and markets."
Philip said, "I visited this hotel on the two previous days to check out the rooms, once with my 13 year old son and the next with my wife. When I presented my evoucher the next day at a savings of 1000 baht per night I don t think the receptionist was very pleased to see me. She insisted it would be an extra 500 baht a night for my son. Still a savings of 500 baht.No complaints about the room. Double and single bed in the room. Bath with excellent water pressure. Shared outside balcony with adjoining room overlooking a busy Bangkok intersection. Quiet efficient air conditioning. Good western style breakfast included (why do all the American breakfasts we ve had in Thailand only include fruit pineapple and watermelon. However would rather cash in my breakfast coupon and eat in the many food stalls outside."
Vibeke said, "This hotel is not new, but it does have what you need : nice clean rooms, good breakfast and a nice and helpfull staff. The lokation is perfect near Grand Palace, the river and Khaosan road. We will stay in this hotel again if we ever come back to Bangkok."
Martin said, "I have the staff somewhat erratic - it has a load of character and soul which is so often lacking in larger hotels, making it a great place to stay. For the price (which includes a substantial breakfast buffet) I d not hesitate to recommnend it. Great location too, walking distance to the Chao Praya, Grand Palace and Khao San Road. Top Tips: Don t order a taxi in the foyer - less than half the price outside the front door - and try to get a room facing away from the noisy road outside."
jean said, "central hotel , cheap , clean , with ac , good for a night or 2 , also good massage tai."
Tonglet said, "Best situation to visit many things in BKK, very nice swimming pool, sunny, and a large solarium !Staff very helpfull : for me , after 6 times, the best quality/price for BKK and my favourite. I had tried 4 et 5 stars with no so good qualities."
Kenneth said, "My wife and I friends and I neat, has a friendly and helpful staff and a DYNAMITE breakfast buffet. I will definitely stay here again. The location is terrific and it is an excellent tourist class hotel"
Ken said, "Good hotel ... great staff and excellent breakfast buffet. We ll stay here again."
Janine said, "Beautiful rooms and centrally located. The staff range from disinterested to rude and pay attention to the sign that advises valuables not to be left in the rooms."
Johanna said, "The royal hotel is very old, but offers a good location for cheap for those who want to visit the Grand Palais which is accessible on foot. The room was big enough with AC, TV and a bathroom with bathtub. The hotel has a small swimming pool which was appreciated."
Carin said, "I can start by saying that I do not recommend this hotel. After our first night at the hotel, we noticed that money was missing in two out of four wallets (about 2400baht were missing) We talked to the maid who had cleaned our room and she denied that she had taken it. (We did not have more cleaning from them) The location is not so good either. It takes a long time to get in to town by taxi when it is a lot of trafic (like it always is in Bangkok). Up to an hour... I prefer to stay at a hotel near a skytrain station and with a staff that do not steal from you!"
Guenter said, "After having been in that Hotel several years ago, we were a little bit astonished how all facilities had deteriorated. However, it is still a good choice if you want to stay close by major attractions like palace and museum. Don t try the restaurant. There are much better options close by."
Lena said, "It was not what we expected. It was very worn out in the old wing. In the room right in front of mine was a lot of loud activity going on with an open door, including communication radios - quite noisy even at night time....so this was not what we hoped for. It would also be good if the photo on the internet will be change - it is not even the right colour of the hotel - how old is that photo???"
Michelle said, "This hotel was just what we were looking for, inexpensive, clean and located near the Grand Palace. It is nothing fancy, but for the price it is clean and a decent hotel. The breakfast was good and the rooms were good enough for what we were looking for."
R said, "My fourth stay in this hotel. It used to be good and pleasant but is now a disaster.Management seems to dislike bookings through sawadee.com.We were placed in room 245 which had dirty wallpaper, stained carpets and broken lampshades.Complaints did not help.A request to upgrade to a room in the new wing was repeatedly met with the response that it would only be done if we forfeited the amount paid through sawadee.com.We eventually left when bitten by vermin in the bed.Photographs of the state of the room available.Do not go to this place!"
Richard said, "I welcome their guests!!"
Utpal said, "This hotel is a very good value. Though the furniture and carpet looked worn out and the doors in the bathroom had chipped paints, everything was clean. The buffet included in the room price was fairly elaborate. The dining rooms were in excellent shape. The reception staff was very professional and helpful. The location was excellent for visiting the main temples, Grand Palace, main museum, the Royal Berge Museum. The river and river transport are fairly closeby. Reaching the hotel usuing the Airport Bus (#2) was very easy."
Sherri said, "One time many years ago this was a very posh hotel located close to the palace. Now it is rather run down and kind of creepy. Nice enough service. It is however close to the Palace, Khao San Road with out having to stay in the middle of it or better yet the area of Banglampoo, the river and the Phra Sumen Fort. If you needed to the stay in the area for just a few nights it would be OK...it was just too creepy for me."
Peter said, "Besides the location and price, there is not much this hotel has to offer. The rooms (in the old wing) are in a really bad shape and cleanliness is quite questionable. We found objects left over from previous occupants in the room, the sheets were last white in the 70 s and even the fridge had half consumed drinks in it upon our arrival. The receptionists were OK and nice enough, but nothing special. We had virtually no contact with other personnel. All in all, since it was only a short stopover in BK, it was bearable, but there is one thing for sure: We the last time."
Sandro said, "Sad to report the quality of the hotel has gone downhill considerably since our first stay in 1999. We specifically requested a better room than we received last year and unfortunately the request was not granted. It is best to check the room before bringing all your gear to the room. In our review we found a tiny room that was in serious need of rennovation. Our second room was better but left us wondering if our time at this hotel was up. We believe so."
Paul said, "Overall fine. Carpets quite worn and rooms and halls rather shabby, but this is expected in a hotel of this price and category here. Pool very nice. Arcade of A/C shops off lobby very useful. This is something it s competitor, the Royal Hotel, would benefit from. My room s AC didn t work properly when I checked in and it took some time to get it repaired and working right."
Philippe said, "Very good service and confort. Bery good prices. Why asking more ?"
Silvia said, "Affordable, good central location with a good breakfast service. Not that nice the Ladies at the bureau:I had a problem with my cash card and when I needed to do some calls to set up the matter, their behaviour was not the attitude of a service to a customer, rather one of a personal favour."
siri said, "The hotel was OK. Nice clean room (the bed was extremely hard), fresh towels every day. Small pool. Horrible restaurant, but breakfast was quite good. Location is ok, not in walking distance to anything. no pick up service at the airport, but really enoying taxi guys in the lobby."
