New World City Hotel (former New World Lodge)

Theresa said, "lovely hotel in a nice quiet thai neighbourhood. Only a 5 in walk to Khao San Road and all the pollution. Not a party hotel but its clean. Staff are very friendly and theres a really nice restaurant down the road (the one with the pation furniture on the road), doesn t look like much from outside but food is great and CHEAP!!"

Kevin said, "Decent hotel in a good location. Very clean rooms, but the screened bathroom window is permanently open and some bad smells and smoke come in occasionally. Woke up coughing to what smelled like burning tires one night. Breakfast was in a pleasant sun room, but the food was pretty awful. Service is great and the staff at the desk is super. Lunch and dinner menu is double what you would pay anyplace else and we were served warm smoothies on a hot day at the Bakery adjacent to the breakfast room. The Bakery barman was rude and greeted us with a stern NO BEER as we sat down for lunch after a long, hot bus ride from the countryside. No welcome, may I help you, nothing. He glared at us the entire time we ate. Never encountered another person in Thailand or Cambodia who was rude like this. Guy needs to work on his people skills."

Hans said, "nach vier schönen wochen in thailand kamen wir zurück nach bangkok und verbrachten die letzten 2 nächte im new world lodge hotel: reserviertes zimmer war nicht mehr frei - upgrade: 600 baht. um 21.30 wollte uns in restaurant das bis 22.00 geöffnet ist niemand mehr bedienen! das möbilar in den zimmern ist uralt die polster dreckig und noch älter als die einrichtung. nach dem zweiten wechsel hatten wir endlich ein zimmer ohne BETTWANZEN!!!! nebenan vergnügte man sich lautstark mit prostituierten und unzurechnungsfähige, stockbesoffene individuen traf man nachts in den gängen! new world lodge: never again!!"

SUKRAN said, "Will never stay in this hotel again if I were to return to BKK. A basic hotel with minimum facilities. The room was not to my expectation compare to the price I paid. very small bathroom with metal holder sticked on the wall which caused me hurt my arms, not very smart to put this thing in the bathroom.Food in buffet line for breakfast was sucks, no taste at all. even when I ordered for A-La-Carte it was the same. The prawn not really fresh for my tom yam gong. on the second meal I ordered oxtail soup but same dissapointment i had. the soup was sucks"

MARCOS said, "Hotel simpatico, buen servicio , piezas limpias, buen desayuno, gente amable, los problemas son: llega mal olor del canal que estan limpiando en la calle de atras, se supone que al terminal las obras se solucionara el problema, pero no se espere un canal estilo Amsterdam Venecia.Un poco rebuscado para encontrar el hotel y llegar a el, (como todo el Krung Teph)"

Pia said, "Hotel is good value for your money. Good location (walking distance to Khao San Rd), rooms clean, staff friendly, breakfast is ok. Ideal hotel for a couple of days in Bangkok."

Mr. said, "The hotel is set in an alley off the main road. Rooms are a little dated but it offers good value for money. It is also close to the Chao Praya river where one can travel by river taxi. Breakfast is served buffet-style. The hotel made me think of a block of old flats but if it is only a decent, clean room for the night you re after this would do."

Brian said, "A well oiled machine. Good for 2 or 3 days but longer and the neighbourhood gets old very fast.When I checked in the bathroom light was out. I had to ask 3 times before it was fixed. This place had seen better days but they work hard to keep it going.Breakfast buffet ok but lunch /dinner a little overpriced.Better locations exist just north of Kao San road."

Carina said, "Nice hotel with only 10 minutes walk to Khoasan Road. Good service, clean room with soft bed. travel agency at hotel. Breakfast buffet is OK, but I would be glad if they also could serve fried bacon. If I visit Bangkok again I will stay at this hotel."

Henkilökunta ystävllistä. Huoneet nuhjuiset ja vuodevaatteet nuhjaiset. Aamiainen hyvä. Nopea tsekkaus viereisiin hotelleihin rankkasi paikan turhan kalliiksi puolella hintaa pääsee naapurikorttelissa majoittumaan mukavammin. Esim. new orchid tai diamons house (nimet ovat tod. näk. sinnepäin..)Sopii enismmäisen yön paikaksi ja seuraaviksi kannattaa hakeutua naapurihotliin."

Celes said, "it s a good budget hotel. the location is good, near Khaosan Road and Grand Palace. it only takes 50 minutes from the airport at cost of about 600 Baht including toll fee. But, there are small cockroaches in the room."

Janet said, "Service was great. The receptionists were very friendly and very helpful. The room was big, and though the bed cover had stains, the bed sheets were still clean. At a very convenient location to take a cheap river taxi down to the Grand Palace. The shower had decent water pressure (a hard thing to find). Breakfast is good too."

Moniek said, "I helpful, breakfast buffet very complete with food for every taste, incl. kids. Unfortunately there is no fresh orange juice, but we just bought some on Samsen road (nog salt, no suger added. Rooms quite comfortable for the price. There is a kettle to make hot water for tea or coffee!!, fridge and tv. Bathroom adequate. One cockroach, many mosquito´s because of the Klong nearby. We liked the neighbourhood, because it is not so touristy, still near enough Kao San etc. with easy access to the major sights and the river taxi´s, cheap and nice Thai food and laundry service in surrounding streets, ATM around the corner, cheap internet just across the street, a very nice Tanghuaseng department store just a little further on Samsen Rd, look for the big T on the building. And the final tough: the Qiblat arrow on the ceiling and times for muslim prayer next to elevator.I have friendly. The room was very good for the price we paid, with air conditioner and hot water, spacious and clean. We received 2 complimentary bottles of water each day. The buffet breakfast had a large selection of food to suit all tastes."

Fallows said, "On arrival I found the reception staff excellent, the hotel porter assisted me with my bags to my room, the room apart from needing a lick of paint was clean and the triple size bed was great for a single occupant. Maid service was good as was tour booking in foyer. My only critism only a few TV channels,I think two in English & BBC World news didn t function properly. Would definately stay there again- took their card in case I did"

David said, "First impressions werent good - met our first cockroaches in two weeks of travelling in Thailand. Otherwise the hotel seemed reasonable value for money, the staff were friendly and the buffet breakfast was good. It is obviously a very popular hotel with backpackers, being five minutes walk from Khao San Rd."

Terry said, " a week later another 2 days.first room had a leak in the bathroom and staff changed our room straight away.staff excellent,friendly and helpful.room was fine,overlooking canal,with little galoks(thai squirrels)running through the trees.5 minutes walk to khaosan rd.excellent air conditioning.bed was a bit firm,but they all are in thailand.this hotel is in the real bangkok.if you want 5 star luxury, go stay at the oriental and PAY! for the price here, the new world is fine.oh, the breakfast is good too!"

Desjardinsdaniel said, "very good hotel, good service, excellent open buffet for breafast. the hotel is weel located, a bit out of the frenzyness of Khaosan but 2 mn walk only.I spent there several times and I will again choose it when I return to BKKThe only remark I would do, but a very superficial detail, could the hotel get more channels on the tv (star movies-discovery channel....)"

Mark said, "A well-run hotel. Everything worked. Location is right near the backpackers centre of Khao San Road. The hotel has a small internal travel agency which helped us get to Chiang Mai and back."

Hans-Juergen said, "Good value for the price. Clean, but a bit shabby the room, need renovation. Only a short walk to Khao Sarn Area.Staff friendly and helpfull. Go with the taxi only with taximeter from the hotel to the airport. In the end, very nice staying."

Grzegorz said, "Maybe it depends on season but on February there is no smell from the river! Everything was great. The only minus is the breakfast. It s good but if you come late you may not find a place to sit. I had to wait for a place two times :/"

The buffet it s ok nothing extravagant. The bathroom wasn t clean that good. For the price it s more than ok.So near of kao san road by foot 5 minutes.I will return for sure.Sorry for my english!!"

Simone said, "Good position in a quiet soi of Ratanakosin, but rooms are overprized for their standard. Bathrooms are basic, the staff is not helpfully. Buffet - Breakfast is very good. Be carefull: if you ask to the reception for a taxi, they are used to call taxi drivers they don t want to use the taxi meter. Ask for the taxi meter or go on the street and stop the first taxi you see (the best choice)."
